PC requirements and launch tech, decoded

Star Wars Galactic Racer's official Steam minimum specs, why there is no recommended tier yet, and what DLSS 4.5 and ray-traced Lumen actually mean here.

Last verified

Steam now publishes a Minimum requirements block for Star Wars: Galactic Racer (App 4078430). It is the only spec tier that exists — there is no Recommended column, which is unusual this close to an October 6 launch and worth understanding rather than glossing over.

Everything below is copied from the official store listing and one first-party news post. Where the store page is silent, this page says so instead of filling the gap.

Four things this spec sheet actually tells you

The GPU floor is a ray-tracing card, on purpose. RTX 2060, Arc A580 and RX 5600 XT are not a random spread — they are the entry points for hardware ray tracing on each vendor. Read next to the DLSS post below, which confirms hardware-accelerated, ray-traced Lumen lighting, and the GPU floor stops looking arbitrary. Note that the RX 5600 XT is the odd one out: it is an RDNA 1 card without dedicated ray accelerators, so how the lighting path behaves on it is not something the store page addresses.

6 GB of VRAM is the stated line. The 6 GB is spelled out for the Radeon entry, and the RTX 2060 and Arc A580 are both 6 GB parts in their common configurations. That is a consistent floor rather than a footnote.

SSD is required, not recommended. Steam’s Additional Notes field says “SSD Required” outright. A runs-based racer streaming a new environment every event has little tolerance for a mechanical drive, so treat this as a hard prerequisite.

12 GB RAM is an oddly specific number. Most PCs run 8 or 16 GB, so a 12 GB minimum in practice means 16 GB. It suggests the game’s own footprint sits somewhere above what an 8 GB machine can spare after Windows.

There is no Recommended block on the store page as of August 3, 2026. That is a gap in the official record, not a claim that the minimum tier is all you need.

What it means practically: there is no official target resolution or frame rate for any hardware level. The minimum block does not state what it achieves — no “1080p / 30 fps” style note appears anywhere on the listing. Any figure you see quoted for this game’s performance targets is not coming from Fuse Games or Secret Mode.

We check the store page for a Recommended block regularly and it will be added here, verbatim, the day it appears.

DLSS 4.5 and the lighting pipeline

The one piece of confirmed performance technology comes from a first-party post on 10 March 2026. Officially confirmed to be in the launch build:

  • DLSS 4.5, native support.
  • Dynamic Multi Frame Generation — generated frames, scaling with headroom.
  • Super Resolution with the 2nd gen transformer model — the upscaling pass.
  • Hardware-accelerated, ray-traced Lumen lighting.
  • DLSS Ray Reconstruction, described as further refining that lighting.

The studio’s framing is that the visuals are “high-fidelity” and that ray reconstruction refines the lighting rather than merely cleaning up upscaling artefacts.

Two honest caveats. First, these are NVIDIA-specific features — the post names no FSR or XeSS equivalent, and the minimum spec lists AMD and Intel GPUs regardless. Whether those vendors get an upscaler is unannounced. Second, frame generation adds latency by its nature, and no official statement addresses input latency in a game built around, per the studio, precise “game feel.”

Storage, install size and preload

50 GB available space is the official figure. Two things it is not:

  • It is not the download size. Compressed download and installed footprint routinely differ, and Steam’s requirements field describes space needed.
  • It is not a preload announcement. No preload date or unlock time has been published.

Supported languages

The store page lists 14 languages for interface and subtitles: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Latin America), Traditional Chinese, and Turkish.

Full audio is listed for English only. If you were expecting localised voice acting for a Star Wars title, that is the current state of the listing.

Accessibility and comfort options tagged on Steam

The store page carries several accessibility-related category tags. These confirm a feature exists; they do not describe how granular it is:

  • Adjustable Text Size
  • Camera Comfort
  • Custom Volume Controls
  • Adjustable Difficulty
  • Narrated Game Menus
  • Subtitle Options
  • Full controller support, plus DualShock and DualSense support, and a Gamepad Recommended tag
  • Stereo Sound and Surround Sound

Worth flagging: the store page lists Stereo Sound and Surround Sound but no HDR tag, and there is no keyboard-and-mouse remapping tag. Absence of a tag is weak evidence — publishers do not always tag exhaustively — so treat those as unconfirmed rather than absent.

Confirmed vs not confirmed

  • Confirmed: the full minimum spec block above, 50 GB storage, SSD required, Windows 10, DLSS 4.5 with Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Super Resolution, ray-traced Lumen with Ray Reconstruction, the 14-language list with English-only full audio, and the accessibility category tags.
  • Not confirmed: any recommended tier, any target resolution or frame rate, download size as distinct from install footprint, preload timing, FSR or XeSS support, HDR support, ultrawide support, an official frame-rate cap, and how the RDNA 1 Radeon minimum handles the ray-traced lighting path.

We re-check the Steam listing for a Recommended block and an install size, and this page gets updated with the official wording rather than a paraphrase. For launch timing and the platform question, see release date and platforms; for where to buy it, download; and for what you actually get in each SKU, editions.
