The Galactic League story: Shade, Kestar Bool, and Derven Acos

Who is Shade, who is Kestar Bool, and how does the runs-based Galactic League campaign work? The confirmed story of Star Wars Galactic Racer.

The official Story Trailer, published to the Steam news hub, is the first time Fuse Games laid out who you race for and who you race against. This page pulls that campaign framing together. Everything here is from first-party trailers and announcements — where the underlying structure is inferred, it is flagged.

The setup

The Galactic League was founded by Darius Pax. It has since been taken over by its own champion, Kestar Bool — “as talented as he is villainous” in the official wording — who uses his position to threaten rival pilots and extend the Bool family’s reach across the circuit.

Losing control of the thing he built, Darius Pax recruits an outsider: Shade, a mysterious pilot with a personal grudge against the Bool family. That grudge is the engine of the campaign. Shade is the player character, backed by two allies:

  • Hibi, an energetic engineer who runs a workshop on every planet (more below).
  • A certain legendary podracer — the trailer’s phrasing, left deliberately coy.

There is no Force and no prophecy here. Fuse Games have been consistent about that: this is a story about skill, rivalry, and a corrupt league, set in the lawless Outer Rim.

How the campaign is structured

This is the part that surprises people, and it is confirmed, not inferred. The campaign is runs-based:

  • You carve your own path through the League, choosing between different events as you progress, with unique unlocks and new challenges at each fork.
  • There is no turning back once an event is chosen.
  • If you crash out too many times, you wreck out of the tour entirely. You then “regroup, rebuild, and begin again.”
  • On a new run, only certain perks and unlocks carry over. You start each tour fresh, making new decisions for another attempt at Kestar Bool.

If that sounds like a roguelike, that is because it borrows from one. Press who played it at Summer Game Fest repeatedly reached for that comparison — PC Gamer’s coverage headline invoked “Slay the Spire DNA,” and the creative director framed it as adding “real consequence” to each race.

Hibi and the paddock

Between events, Shade visits the paddock — where rival pilots gather to share stories, throw down challenges, and offer support. Each planet’s paddock houses Hibi and her unique workshop. There you fit new parts, either earned in races or bought from Hibi directly, each offering stat boosts and abilities to match your racing style.

This is the customization loop the store page calls “build your ride,” seen from the story side. For the build side of it, see our best build guide.

Derven Acos: the final gauntlet

The trailer revealed the League’s showpiece location: Derven Acos, a custom-built arena made specifically for the racing league. Its hook is that it combines every planetary condition you will have faced across the tour into one gauntlet. Nailing it demands “nerves of steel and a well-tuned build.”

We cover Derven Acos as a circuit on the tracks page.

Where podracing fits

The Story Trailer also gave the first look at podracers being piloted outside the Mos Espa Circuit. Podracing has a role in the single-player campaign, but you do not have to wait for it: you can jump straight into podracing from Arcade mode the moment you start, and there are podracer-focused online multiplayer events. Full mode breakdown is on our game modes page.

Confirmed vs not confirmed

  • Confirmed: Darius Pax founded the League; Kestar Bool is the corrupt champion; Shade has a grudge against the Bool family; Hibi is the per-planet mechanic; the campaign is runs-based with permanent event choices and partial carry-over; Derven Acos is the combined-condition finale.
  • Not confirmed: the full rival roster, how many perks carry between runs, the campaign’s length, and the identity of the “legendary podracer” ally.

Launch is October 6, 2026. See the release date page for platform and pre-order details, and inside Fuse Games for who wrote and built this campaign.
